早春二月 Birdsongs
This is a day that I felt it is a day in Spring season. It was very pleasant to do some T'aichi and stretching exercises in the park, it is half term this week in schools, saw some children, not a lot yet as it is still a bit cold. The highlights of today were birdsong time and the first lunch picnic. Had a timing sporting moment, 30 mins on birdsongs jogging, 30 mins a picnic in the sunshine. All worked well. While walking/jogging, heard birdsongs naturally in tune with water flowing from a small man- made water line, not quite a stream, surrounded 1/5 of the park, this is the low level of the park, but birds seem to like this section with more trees and shades, they had a concert together. It was only 30 mins as I could not afford more time today have to be in a disciplined mode in this season. The sunshine was warm, sitting on a bench facing the putting area, with a few ladies having their dogs around, had some light conversation to praise the warm weather. 30 mins picnic lunch worked out well, enjoyed the sunflowers seed roasted on the bread.
I wanted to sing a few words from the traditional Chinese opera, but forgot full sentences, only some words and some melodies. Will practise “牡丹亭”. Will find out some sporting music in the UK, must be interesting.

The long walk didn't work for curing a cold!
The long walk really didn't give a satisfactory cure to the cold- too old fashion originated in the 70s. However, the backup of apples, oranges, lemons and gingers' drinks helped a bit. The seafood lunch worked perfectly on Monday and it gave a boost to the health dramatically! In addition to it, fresh air, the pleasure to the eyes of the green made a further level of comfor to the first stage of my cold.
It is a basic thought for golfers, take apples, oranges, lemon and gingers' drinks regularly, the chilly air in the course hurts necks, breathing system and eventually can form a cold, so more Vit C and let more sunshine to bring out Vit D.

Overwalked
With too much walks, not sufficient nutritious foods and drink, eg for bones and blood iron food input does help the health balance, so plenty of oily fishes, good quality chicken soup, so not a good idea when you are too busy with no time to care about the nutrient balance particularly in Vitamins, iron and calcium input, need a helper for gentle reminders.

Good walk to cure a cold
The experiment seems to be working. The cold didn't develop further although with complication of the lack of required good hour sleep, but this is a good test in time, an interesting free drama to watch, not quite Shakespeare yet. My good friend quoted: “In times of trials, I am reminded of His Grace and it is sufficient for me. “ So it is the time for gratitude, setside the others.
The cold has been in control, with chicken soup, apples, and good refreshments, of course all wonderful friends concern, along with joggs/walks to generate natural body heat to stop the coldness inside.

not "春眠不觉晓"s time
Is the walking training helping me to stop a cold developing? I certainly hope so, but will know after 3 day's experiment from now. The rain on Sunday after the Bring and Share lunch was rather long, lasting for more than an hour. I thought it is healthy to walk a bit in the rain as it provided more oxygen than usual, unfortunately the high heel didn’t help the walk and semi jog, so I stopped for tea, found a new tea place, further on without much indulgence on tea in time; went to a place not too far from the Middlesex Golf club, but didn’t aim for spending time there, instead, to take a Scottish cold recipe with two sugar supplied by a nice girl in the Three Horseshoes, that helped stopping the development of a cold at the time.
Jogged home, immediately with hot shower head to toe, no bath as a bed is better after the heat generation.
This is very technical regarding heat to cure a cold, but that is the time in Spring for a good training. So today walked to SOAS for less than 2.5 hours reached the goal being there at 5pm, not a min’s late than planned. The result is bones are aching, but nature body heat seems to be back for one hour. Spring is the time for good physical trainings, not 春眠不觉晓’s time, it is time for a good and disciplined training.

"读万卷书,不如行万里路" by Du Fu, Tang Dynasty Poet
(the title is: "having read ten thousand books is not as good as having walked ten thousand miles "
More than two thousand years ago, it needed plenty of walking, so it would not be too wrong Kongzi 孔子 (Confucius) himself walked a lot, too, I think. Du Fu 杜甫, The Dang dynasty poet certainly did as he said, having read ten thousand books is not as good as having walked ten thousand miles (读万卷书,不如行万里路)( 行xing here actually means I would say “ travelled”, can be using different forms of transportation, not purely walking in this sense, but certainly one thousand years ago, transportation methods are very limited. but not purely walking in this sense anyway. I don't forget Su Dongpo, my literature hero, he likes his gentle sports, of course mores walkings in Hainan Island, Huizhou when he was away from his officialdom.
Have set an initial walking mileage goal before Easter. Today completed the planned miles. The green was very wet and muddy, but never mind, the main point in this season is still walking - this is the essentail training now.

孔子曰:发愤忘食,乐以忘忧,而不知老之将至。Confucius said (to himself)
孔子曰:发愤忘食,乐以忘忧,而不知老之将至。
Confucius said (to himself): working hard so forgetting to eat, being contended with joy so forgetting the sorrow, therefore not knowing old age is coming.
It is a great pity that not seeing much researches on Confucius's view on sports. I should remember that there are three ways to incease human capitals:
(this is on sports)
1. through producing,
2. through education,
3. through leisure.
I think for the sports charity now I would start from 3 focusing on walking before Easter, but will cover more 1 and 2 when find spare time to fit in my extremely busy timetable before Easter.

生命在于运动 -Life is in sports
生命在于运动 – Chairman Mao’s teaching
The helpful sports spirit works as everyone knows. That is the energy supports one’s daily life and cheers up the heart. Tonight walked fast in the chilly and wet early Spring evening to the evening teaching became such a joy (not to mention the happy two hours with my joyful, keen and polite students in the Mandarin class). Chairman Mao taught us in the new red China: 生命在于运动, that was childhood’s time teaching. Remember in the early 70s,glad to get up before 6am, ran to the “Peach Flower Floating Park 流花公园” for 40 mins, did the T’aichi, breathed in the freshest air, but never so easy to get a cold, that quiet, fresh, mysterious but safe time in the early mornings is still now in my collection of good sporting memories. This early training is now boosting the 2 miles per day sporting discipline, of course, not after a full CNY meal immediately though.

一年之计在于春,一日之计在于晨
Walking is part of a family holiday package. Traced back some of the nice walking memories were with my family in the mountains. We got up at 5am to listen to the Buddhism temple’s drum and bell music, and with the beauty of sunrise in front. Recently with my parents in yellow mountains for a week, the changing beauty of Yellow Mountain is so attractive and philosophical, as the clouds come and go, the sunrise and sunset taking turn day by day. What is one of the important things in mind from that holiday I established is to keep healthy and have more wonderful holidays! So the walks with like-minded,friends and relatives will be easy to achieve:) simply logic, that only requires persistence, do it every day! Particularly in Spring,一年之计在于春,一日之计在于晨, time for a good walk, when the weather turns warmer, back to puttings.

Lost in the city in the morning today
I lost myself in the city before 10.30am,arrived at Bank before 10am, but spent half an hour to find the place only less than 5 mins away. Have not been easy being an early morning person in winter in London due to the late sunrise, or no sun all day. This is the season for a change; it is time to appreciate the sunrise, the fresh air, and the good cup of tea or coffee - so time to be a morning person in the Spring! Some memory last winter turned me to expect more into the green, the streams and new books and more good walks. Some memories collected from Xmas, new year and the CNY are generally great, although with a momentum sense of loss in the context of homeland on day one of CNY. Anyhow, the conversation with my Chinese literature hero Su Dongpo (Born in Song dynasty), his words bought me back to the realistic for a while, on day two CNY, I added: make a home where is 6,000 miles away is rather interesting, the embrace with different cultures that is crucial in the century, isn’t it?
When in the city life, one can imagine the countrylife for a while, a least something to put the mind to peace in the nature, one can picture the old days, such as Mr Su, he walked every morning around the country roads after the green tea breakfast, watered his bamboo gardens, looked after the plum flowers trees, read under the pine trees, and talked to chrysanthemums while the stream was running along his house, then played his music. Did he play much sports, no much as we do now, but he played chess very well, the other type of relaxation.
Transportation is much greater than the Su Dongpo time, one can take a train to the real countryside during the weekend, is it not something that can be valued? such as the development of railways, aeroplanes, that link people around and pass the joy, talents, differences to enjoy? Su may like to travel more if he were here after this 1,000 years. The loss and found sentiments are always around people. The busy life in morden time can easily lose oneself, but find oneself afterwards, isn't it like the surprise like finding the lost golf ball in the bushes?
(Today, attended the talk by Dr. Donald Carson in St. Helen’s Church, Bishopsgate, EC3)

102 Elsie McLean hit a hold-in-one
It is the 2nd day of CNY. Full of joy and gratitude to all relatives and friends.
Ms McLean's way of longevity is interesting to look at, surely with fresh air and walks certainly are good for the heart (heart disease is the biggest killer, didn't know until a knowledgeble friend corrected me 3 years ago.)
So this 2011, good walks (with God's love), cultures, relaxed foods and wines will contribute to good health:)
